Water rescue in Raglan

Police, Coastguard and surf lifesavers have been busy this afternoon with rescues.

Just before mid-day a surfer was reported to be in difficulties at Ngarunui Beach, Raglan.

Other swimmers went to assist and surf club and Coastguard boats also responded.

A search is continuing but it remains unclear as to whether the surfer managed to reach the beach unassisted.

Enquiries with beachgoers are still being made.

At 2.20pm, two swimmers were reported to be in difficulties at Piha, near Lion Rock, in rough conditions.

Two women were assisted to shore and CPR was carried out on one prior to transport by Westpac helicopter.

The second has been transported by ambulance and is listed as being status 4.

The police eagle helicopter, a coastguard fixed-wing aircraft and two Coastguard vessels are meanwhile searching the vicinity of the Manukau bar for a 6.5m Rayglass fishing boat reported as being overdue.

There is a 3m swell running in the area at present.
