Weather: Fine days ahead

Despite receiving around 5mm of rain in the early hours of this morning, Tauranga is expected to enjoy some fine weather over the next few days.

A high of around 20 degrees is being forecast by the MetService as a ridge of high pressure moves over the North Island.

The good conditions are expected to continue through to Sunday, when showers are forecast to creep in.

Following the ridge, another front is expected to move onto New Zealand this weekend.

'It's still too early to say exactly how this front will affect the country,” says MetService meteorologist Stephen Glassey.

'People should keep an eye on our forecasts over the coming days as the picture becomes clearer.”

Looking further afield, the tropics are becoming more active as we get closer to the formal start of the Tropical Cyclone Season on November 1.

With a strong El Nino in effect, cyclone activity is expected to be above normal this season and MetService meteorologists are already watching the tropics closely for any signs of early development.
