Stolen vehicle in police pursuit

A 23-year-old man is facing a raft of driving related charges after allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle.

The man was arrested on Monday morning after police attempted to carry out a routine stop around 7.20am near Edgecumbe.

A police patrol car and another vehicle were crashed into when the stolen vehicle crashed on Monday morning.

The vehicle failed to stop and a police pursuit ensued.

'It was pursued along a number of rural roads before heading towards Whakatane. Police deployed spikes and the vehicle continued on its wheel rims,” says a statement from police.

'A short time later at the SH30/Coastlands roundabout, the vehicle collided with a police car and struck a car belonging to a member of the public. No one was injured.”

Police have since confirmed that the vehicle he was driving was stolen from Taupo over the weekend.
