Bay boy killed in hunting incident

Police have named the 11-year-old Bay of Plenty boy killed in a hunting incident yesterday.

Connor Brian Phillips, from Reporoa, was shot while an adult member of a hunting party was unloading a firearm at the end of a hunt.

The incident happened in Kaingaroa Forest just south of Rotorua yesterday afternoon.

A scene examination was conducted yesterday and police will be speaking to a number of people as part of the ongoing investigation.

A post mortem will be carried out later on today.

When unloading a weapon 1. Remove the source of the ammunition,i.e magazine, or similar. 2.Point the weapon skyward and clear the breech by repeated opening and closing. 3.DO NOT replace the magazine in the weapon until all rounds have been removed Dailo;Ex British Commando ww2
