A police investigation is underway following a stabbing in Kawerau overnight.

Emergency services were called to a property on Bowen Street about 11.45pm following reports of a stabbing.

Police Senior Sergeant Karl Konlechner confirmed a man was taken to hospital after sustaining stab wounds.

He says the incident is serious.

No other information is available at this stage, says Karl.
