Emergency Management Bay of Plenty are warning Eastern Bay residents they will be testing all alerting systems on Friday, October 9, at 10 am.

The test will begin at 10am and will include the following areas: Matata, Coastlands, Whakatane, Ohope, Ohiwa, Waiotahi, Opotiki and Waihau Bay.

A spokesperson for Emergency Management Bay of Plenty says all fixed sirens will sound continuously for up to one minute. Text alerts will also be sent as well as emails.

The public are reminded that this is only a test only and no action is required.

In a real event, the sirens will sound for 10 minutes with a constant rise. For more information visit Bay of Plenty Civil Defence.
