A Police search is still underway in Waitarere Forest, near Waitarere Beach in the Horowhenua, for 10-year-old Alexander Fisher.

Alex went missing from the domain near the forest in the early hours of October 6.

A search and rescue operation commenced yesterday afternoon with Police Search and Rescue (LandSAR) rescue team on foot and a helicopter but overnight failed to find him.

The foot search continued through the night and the helicopter search recommenced at first light using infra-red technology.

Alex went missing from the south side of the Waitarere Forest and was last seen wearing a red hooded sweat shirt, blue shorts and black shoes.

He could also have a green/blue puffer jacket and light grey tracksuit pants with him.

Area Commander Inspector Sarah Stewart said 'police are very keen to locate him this morning. Police are working with Alex's family and are providing support.

"I can confirm that some items of Alex's have been found during the search but there is no evidence of foul play at this stage.”

Extra Police and Search and Rescue teams from Wellington and Whanganui with dog units have been recruited into the area and are working to find Alex.

Police would like to thank the public for their help but appeal for public to stay away from the area as the search dogs will continue their tracking.
