Rock slip closes SH35

State Highway 35, just past Opotiki, is closed this morning due to a rock slip on the road.

NZ Transport Agency says both lanes of the highway at Maraenui Hill are closed.

The original slip came down on September 30.

This is the second total road closure in a week after a large rock slip come down blocking both lanes on September 30.

The NZ Transport Agency says there is no detour and motorists are urged to delay travel in the area.

Contractors are expected to be onsite working to clear the slip and re-open the road as soon as possible.

In the meantime, people are being asked to avoid the area until further notice.
