Contract talks for council CEO

Tauranga City Council CEO Garry Poole will meet with councillors today to discuss his performance review.

Poole is the city council's sole employee, and is responsible for ensuring council's decisions are carried out effectively by staff.

Today's Extraordinary Chief Executive's Performance Committee has been re-scheduled after September's cancelled meeting, which follows on from the regular, six-month meeting held in August.

The public will be excluded from the meeting which is the chief executive's performance and remuneration review for 2014/15.

Poole arrived from Wellington in April 2013, becoming the city's third CEO in as many years following the death of Ken Paterson in June 2012. He was followed by interim CEO Leigh Auton, who was hired to continue the staff restructuring process that was underway at the time.

Garry was formerly CEO at Wellington for 15 years, and his starting pay in Tauranga was $340,000 per year.

As Wellington City Council CEO, Poole was responsible for a 1400 staff and an organisation with more than $7 billion worth of assets plus a total income of more than $450 million. Tauranga has a staff of just over 500.

Debt reduction performance in reality abysmal staff numbers climbing wage bill excessive and it will all be turning pear shaped.Based on performance(or lack of )should be a reduction in remuneration or better still dispense with services completely.!!

No Increase Necessary

Wellington CC voted on 3 occaisions not to renew Pool's contract. Why ? We have never heard the reason/s for that refusal.Let's hear the reasons. $340,000 is ample remuneration for the job he does. Far too much for the responsibility and the size of Tauranga.
