Steamers lose to Wellington

>Bay of Plenty have gone down 31-13 to Wellington in gusty conditions.
A small but vocal crowd came to support the Bay at ASB Bay Park Stadium in Mt Maunganui.

However playing into a stiff wind Wellington managed two tries to Jeremy Thrush and a conversion to Jackson Garden-Bachop to give the visitors a 12-10 lead.

But the Bay were ruing several missed opportunities and were unlucky not to have going into the break ahead. However, a try to Johan Bardoul and a conversion and penalty from Dan Hollinshead meant the Clayton McMillan coached side were still within reach.
Wellington were soon on the board after the break when Ardie Savea found a hole in the Steamers defence and ran around Hollinshead to score and for Garden-Bachop to convert.
Steamers replied a short while later after a Wellington player was yellow-carded for a professional foul and Hollinshead kicked the penalty to take the score to 17-13, Wellington.
The rugby Gods smiled on Bay of Plenty when Wellington were down to 13 men when Ben May was given 10 minutes for foul play and what looked like a try was disallowed.
But Wellington still managed to score their bonus point try when the Bay found themselves stretched defensively and Cory Jane ran in under the post for Jonny Bently to convert to take the lead to 24-13.
Wellington scored their fifth try when Tomasi Alosio intercepted a pass and ran under the post for an easy conversion to Bently to make the final score 31-13.
