Car hits powerpole in Oropi

UPDATED 12.16PM: Power is out to homes in Oropi and Ohauiti this afternoon after a car crashed into a powerpole.

Police have closed the road to allow a tow truck to remove the vehicle and for power authorities to repair the damage.

Powerco's website states that power is estimated to be back on in the area by around 5pm.

It's understood the driver of the vehicle was treated by St John Paramedics at the scene and has been taken to Tauranga Hospital.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.

Reports are coming in of a car that has crashed into a powerpole on Oropi Road this lunchtime.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the crash has caused powerlines to come down over the vehicle and across the road, which is understood to be closed.

Police, fire and St John Paramedics have been called to the scene, however the extent of any injuries remain unconfirmed at this stage.

There are no reports of road closures, but people are advised to drive with care in the area.
