New challenge for outdoor lovers

Taking in the beautiful scenery in the Bay of Plenty will get you fit and could win you and your mates $100 in sports vouchers.

Sport Bay of Plenty, Sport NZ and the Department of Conservation have formed a partnership to bring an innovative approach to adventure sport and recreation in the Bay of Plenty.

The organisations have created the Active Outdoors Workplace Challenge which will see teams of four set out to clock up the highest kilometres walking, running, cycling or paddling outdoors during the month of October.

A Sport Bay of Plenty spokesperson says the Active Outdoors Workplace Challenge is all about discovering, exploring and connecting with all of the fantastic outdoor recreational opportunities in the Bay. Included in the challenge is eight specific sites throughout the region known as 'Virtually on Track gem sites”.

Teams can clock up the kilometres anywhere in the region but each time a team use one of the eight gem sites, they can get bonus points.

The eight sites are Rotorua Eastern Lakes, McLarens Falls and Lower Kaimai, Kawerau and Tarawera, Waihi Beach andCoastline, Whakatane and Ohiwa Harbour, Papamoa Hills Range, Opotiki and Motu and Otanewainuku and Kaharoa Corridor.

The team that clocks up the most kilometres over the month will win a $100 sports voucher for each team member. All teams managing to accumulate 486km over the month will go into the draw to win a $100 sports voucher for each team member.
