Mr Olympia visits Tauranga

When it comes to muscle, there aren't too many who can top body builder Ronnie Coleman, and Tauranga locals will get the chance to see him up close and personal this weekend.

Ronnie is known as one of the greatest body builders in history, having won the Mr Olympia title a record eight times – a feat he shares with fellow American Lee Haney.

Now 51, in his heyday the 180cm tall body builder tipped the scales at 140kg. Ronnie is in New Zealand on a business trip visiting Payless Supplements stores who sell his products.

Today he spent half the day in the Rotorua Payless store, where about 100 fans lined up to get a picture with the gentle giant.

Store owner Kiki Kahlon says it was great to have the former champion pay them a visit.

'He's been fantastic,” says Kiki. 'The line of fans stretched outside the store. We sell his product here so to have him in the store was pretty awesome.”

Ronnie will visit the Tauranga branch on Grey Street tomorrow, and he says he is looking forward to visiting the city and check out some of the sights.

Born in Bastrop, Louisiana, Ronnie's physical stature is an impressive sight to see.

His arms are a massive 60cm in diameter. He has a 152cm chest and a body fat ratio of 2.8 per cent. He can squat a staggering 387kg and bench press 226kg.

Payless Supplements Tauranga store owner Mani Singh says members of the public are welcome to come and visit the bodybuilder from 9am until 2pm, on Saturday, September 5.
