Thefts plague Waihi

Thefts are continuing to plague Waihi townships with everything from trees to generators going missing.

Police are investigating the theft of native plants from a private garden in Athenree.

Sergeant Aaron Fraser says each time the owner planted trees, someone has been taking them.

'Someone has been ripping them out of the ground and planting them in their own place,” Aaron says on Gold FM's Facebook page.

'So if you know of an owner who has been planting and they're not the type who would buy their own trees, let us know.”

Police are also warning people living on rural properties to make sure their property is secure following the theft of a generator from a milking shed in Waitekauri Road.

Petrol and tools were also taken from a Silverton Road property.

Aaron says both addresses had padlocks and chains cut in the thefts.

The Victoria Battery was also broken in to and, at this stage, it's not known what was taken.

People who have information about the thefts are asked to contact their nearest police station.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.

Aaron also urges people to report any suspicious behaviour to 111 so police can respond immediately.
