All Blacks hit town tomorrow

Whakatane will host All Blacks Liam Messam, Tawera Kerr Barlow and Sam Cane tomorrow.

The town is one of 10 winners from around New Zealand to get the chance to have the All Blacks before they embark for Rugby World Cup 2015.

Sam Cane is one of three All Blacks that will visit Whakatane tomorrow.

The flying visits, supported by airline partner Air New Zealand, will see players spend time with winners of the All Blacks to the Nation competition in their town, as well as visit local schools and clubs and participate in community events.

Air New Zealand will also host public events with the All Blacks at a number of airports which will include Tauranga.

Fans are encouraged to get to Tauranga Airport between 9.15am-9.35am to welcome players Liam Messam, Tawera Kerr Barlow and Sam Cane before they head to Whakatane.

There, winners ‘Team Whakatane' will formally welcome them at a public event at Mataatua Reserve between 10.20am – 11.40am.

Following a private visit to Mataatua Marae, the players will then head to Opotiki's Memorial Park between 1.20pm-2.15pm for another public event.

Whakatane District Council business services manager, Roslyn Mortimer, says the town is still abuzz following the announcement.

'We're so excited to have captured the attention of our national team, and proud of all those who contributed to making it a reality.

'This will be a great community event, so we want to see as many people as possible in their All Blacks get-up and ready to welcome our team, and show them and the rest of the country what Whakatane is all about.”

All Blacks Manager Darren Shand says the team is always excited about All Blacks to the Nation because the players get to go to some places they have never been before and meet fans from a diverse range of communities.

'It's one of the highlights of the All Blacks calendar for fans and is a chance for players to thank them for all their passionate support before we head off to the Rugby World Cup.”
