Ram-raiders take ATM

An ATM machine at Gull in Paengaroa was stolen in a ram-raid during the early hours of this morning.

The raid took place at 1.30am when a black Subaru Forester, previously stolen from Rotorua, drove into the front of the building.

'They basically came in, got the ATM and left,” says owner Katrina Green.

'It was bolted to the floor, but those bolts have come out. They just rammed it until it fell over.

'It was not nice to wake up to in the middle of the night.”

The Forester used in the raid was reported stolen from Rotorua before the incident took place.

However, the vehicle was recovered this morning, says Detective Sergeant Trevor Brown from Te Puke Police.

The Forester was stolen from Rotorua Hospital grounds at around 9.45pm last night, and recovered from Te Matai Road today, about 200m from the intersection with Pyes Pa Road (SH33).

Trevor adds: 'You know how you get those little entrances to the forestry – those white steel post gates? It was just parked up in front of the gate on the side of the road.

'If anyone saw anything, I'd urge them to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to ring: 577 4300 and ask for Detective Sergeant Trevor Brown.
