The Kiwi Spirit Bar on Hinemoa Street in Rotorua was robbed after a man forced his way into the premises earlier this morning.

The robbery happened at around 7.55am when a female staff member heard a knock at the door.

After going to the door to investigate, a man forced his way into the bar.

'The offender stole a large sum of cash before leaving,” says a statement from police, 'and it's not clear at this stage if he was on foot or had a vehicle.

'An initial description indicates he wore a dark top with a distinctive yellow fluorescent design on the back, dark trousers and black and white shoes or trainers.”

The staff member is understood to be shaken, but was not injured during the incident.

As they investigate the robbery, police are appealing for any information from the public who may have witnessed the incident.
