Rudd remanded on bail

AC/DC rocker Phil Rudd has been remanded on bail until November 24 after pleading not guilty to breaking his home detention conditions in Tauranga District Court this morning.

The 61-year-old will now face a two-hour judge alone hearing, with Judge Robert Wolff setting the date despite protests from Rudd's lawyer, Craig Tuck, who sought case management.

However, prosecution Anna Pollett insisted that the case is a straightforward one.

'The defendant admitted the charge to the police on his arrest,” says Anna. 'There's very strong evidence and the matter can proceed immediately to a judge alone hearing.”

The prosecution initially requested a hearing for this week, but Judge Wolff opted for a later date.

Tuck responded to the prosecution's insistence, saying: 'He (Rudd) doesn't accept that there has been an admission.

'There were a number of people at the address, and he doesn't accept that admission at all.”

He also argued there were witness statements to be obtained and he wouldn't be in a position to defend the case in the short amount of time being suggested by Pollett.

The prosecution allege there were only two people at the property when police called.

The former AC/DC drummer and Tauranga resident was arrested on Saturday, July 18, after breaching the conditions of his home detention sentence, which stipulate he is not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs.

During his last appearance on July 20, Judge Louis Bidois remanded the 61-year-old on bail until today, with the new condition that he can be subjected to testing for drugs and alcohol when requested by New Zealand Police.

Rudd is carrying out an eight-month home detention sentence after pleading guilty to charges of threatening to kill, possession of methamphetamine and possession of cannabis.

DEPORT

Posted on 03-08-2015 10:26 | By simple.really

Still have no answer as to why he hasn't been deported back to Australia. Not welcome here and costing taxpayers thousands! If it was a Kiwi in Australia doing this, they would be deported promptly! !

Nearly another 4 months delay that is just a bloody farce and an indictment on our courts and justice system.

Idiot

He obviously considers he is above the law and can do anything he wants. Put him in jail until his sentencing in November. We don't want people like this in NZ let alone Tauranga.

So have another level of justice in New Zealand. Joe Blog would be in jail now for this.

Mockery

This guy, like so many others, is proving that the NZ Judicial system is a joke. These "judges" are an insult to justice/clowns seeking notoriety/fame .

What a surprise!

Posted on 03-08-2015 14:19 | By Seriously?

surprise, surprise! This man clearly has drug and alcohol problems. He needs to stop the drugs, stop the alcohol and get something else to do during the day other than what he's doing now - perhaps he could get a job! Although most jobs are drug tested these days. Perhaps if he didn't get so much media attention he'd go away and get clean. C'mon phil - wind your neck in before you end up in jail which would be just as big a waste of our hard earned taxpayer dollars as all these court appearances.

Sick of hearing about this person. Surely there is more noteworthy subjects to write about. I feel he deserves whatever is given to him

@ simple.really I go with your assessment. If has an Australian Passport then deport him and save us the hassle and ongoing costs involved with his shannanegins.

two sides

Lets not forget Rudd is a drummer in the one of if not the greatest bands on the world stage, he is a rocker and we in NZ are not use to what rockers do. Ozzy osbourne has done some way out things, drugs, assaults and pretty sure he has threatened to kill in his time what Rudd does is real tame and the public show interest because it is human nature too judge the rich and famous, we have much worse things going on in the Bay just go sit in the court for a day, I believe he should be held accountable but lets not forget the money he brings to the bay which helps employment, his charity work that in some cases he refuses to be recognized for come on media someone sit down and write a story which is balanced and shows both sides

More money for his lawyer!

Be fair folks some people have got to earn a crust out of this.

DEPORT!!!!

Posted on 04-08-2015 09:02 | By simple.really

Lets get it right - he WAS a drummer in ACDC. They've now washed their hands of jim and rightly so. Don't actually care what his job was, he's a druggie and dealer only dragging society down. DEPORT! Sick of wasting my hard earned tax payer dollars on him.

Sunglasses?

Were they sunnies he was wearing in court?

Settle down

He's hardly a mass murderer his he? Jeez if all the overseas Kiwis who had committed such crimes were deported back to here the place would be bursting. There are plenty more dangerous Kiwis to worry about. At least he can pay his way. I'd say he's a typical Kiwi bloke - likes a drink, a smoke, drives badly, rude, obnoxious, arrogant. You should welcome him like he's one of your own.

@tonyb1965....

Posted on 04-08-2015 18:18 | By sambo's back

so you condone fame should get him of his oafish and boorish behaviour?, and because he fancies himself as some sort of big shot and donates money to the "arts" community (ie. a few of the "hairy dogs" on the waterfront could be named after him,) he should be allowed to get away with blatant and arrogant abuse of the law, stuff that, even his ex. band mates do not want anything to do with him, so are we so hard up we need someone like this being at the forefront of our town, and the greatest band in the world? whatever!!!!

Dont judge everyone else by your standards!

fame

Posted on 06-08-2015 10:34 | By tonyb1965

I think fame is working against Rudd in this instance, a lot more to this story than is able to be reported maybe as I say I think that some narrow minded media junkies should sit in the Tauranga court a few days and see some real criminals who do a lot worse and not flogged by the public, he has been a bad lad so treat him like everyone else and respect the fact he has children who live in this town too
