Police shoot man dead in Auckland

A homicide investigation has been launched following the fatal Police shooting in Auckland's Myer's Park on Sunday at about 7.45pm.

The man was known to police and they are now in the the process of locating and notifying his next of kin.

Police were called to Myers Park by the man at 7.23pm and, on arrival, attending staff were advised by him that he was armed.

Staff then called for armed officers to attend.

Verbal negotiations were initiated but werAue unsuccessful.

The man was fatally shot when he indicated he was about to use a firearm.

He died at the scene despite immediate assistance being rendered by police.

Auckland Police will hold a media briefing on Monday morning with an update on the homicide investigation launched Sunday night.

The officers I mean, a very difficult situation to deal with. Why would he advise that he is armed? then go for it, like what do you expect to happen with the armed defenders present? Sad for the officers to have to deal with these types of people.
