Warmer weekend on the cards

A ridge of high pressure will deliver settled weather to the Bay of Plenty to end the working week.

Heading into the weekend, a pair of fronts will affect the majority of the country, but despite the rain and wind expected in the west, temperatures will be slightly warmer for much of New Zealand.

Sunshine is expected for the Bay across tomorrow and Saturday, before rain moves in on Sunday and Monday.

Daily highs are expected to sit around the 15 degree mark, with overnight lows ranging from 6-10 degrees.

However, it will be colder tonight with a low of two degrees being predicted.

'Northerlies will strengthen ahead of a frontal system on Saturday,” says MetService meteorologist Rebekah LaBar.

'This will allow temperatures to climb a little higher across the country – a welcome start to August as we head into the back end of winter.

'Daytime highs of 18 degrees are expected for Gisborne and Napier on Sunday – a pleasant increase from the highs of 12.5 degrees and 13 degrees respectively, recorded on Wednesday.

'Christchurch is looking at a high on Sunday of 14 degrees, following an 11 degrees high from Wednesday.”
