An 18-year-old Eastern Bay of Plenty man is in hospital after suffering injuries in a motocross accident in Opotiki.

The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to a farm near Opotiki at about 3pm yesterday.

A teenager was injured while riding his motocross bike in Opotiki.

Base manager and pilot Liam Brettkelly says the man had fallen from his motocross bike while riding at speed along a farm track.

'The young man received wrist and pelvis injuries as a result of the fall and was flown to Whakatane Hospital for treatment.

'The helicopter was sent due to the nature of the young man's injuries and distance to hospital.”
