Snow warning for Desert Road

More snow is expected to fall on the Desert Road today, making for a chilly start in the North Island.

About 10 to 20cm of snow is expected to fall about the summit, with lesser amounts to 400 metres.


Snow is expected to fall in the Central Plateau until about midday.

The MetService is forecasting further snow showers this evening through to Thursday evening, 'and another 5 to 15cm could accumulate on the road”.

Back in the Bay of Plenty, more showers are expected to hit the region.

A moist northwest flow is expected to bring further heavy rain to the ranges of Eastern Bay of Plenty.

However, these are expected to ease this morning.

The MetService warns that scattered showers are also possible for the Western Bay of Plenty.

Temperatures of 2C to 3C at night are forecast for the rest of the week, until Sunday when it's expected to rise to 6C.

Daily highs are expected to remain about the 10-13C mark for the week.
