Cambridge fatal named

The name of a motorist who died following a collision between a truck and trailer unit and her car on a busy stretch of highway between Hamilton and Cambridge last week has been released.

Waikato Road Policing Manager Inspector Freda Grace says the deceased driver from last Thursday's collision between a truck and trailer unit and car outside the Avantidrome on SH1 had been identified as 63-year-old Belia Maria Van Rensburg of Leamington.

'The cause of last week's crash is still being investigated by the Waikato Serious Crash Unit so it's too early to confirm what has occurred.

'At this point in time Police would like to extend our sympathies to Mrs Van Rensburg's family and highlight the need for all motorists to drive to the conditions and drive to survive, particularly over the winter.”

Freda says driving advice over the winter included Police recommending people drive with their headlights on, have your car serviced regularly and ensure both the vehicle and driver are fit for the road.

'That mean's your tyres have plenty of tread, both your headlights are working, you're not driving tired or impaired by drugs, alcohol or using your cell phone and you're doing everything in your power to ensure Waikato roads are a safe, social environment.

'After all, road safety is no accident and if we are to prevent trauma on our roads we need to do so as a Waikato community.”
