Steamers tickets in hot demand

Loyal Bay of Plenty Steamers fans will get first crack at booking their seats for the eagerly-anticipated clash with Waikato at the Tauranga Domain.

From 9am tomorrow tickets go on sale, over the counter at Baycourt, ahead of the August 30 ITM Cup match at the domain – the first provincial rugby match in the city's CBD in seven years.

The Baycourt tickets allows Steamers fans to get in a day ahead of tickets going to the general public, including the anticipated throng of Waikato supporters, says Bay of Plenty Rugby Union sales and relationships manager Craig Wilson.

Then, on Wednesday morning, ticket sales open up at all other Ticketek outlets, as well as for phone and internet bookings.

With the tickets expected to sell like hotcakes, people are being urged to get in quick or risk missing out, says Craig.

'We expect it to sell out in a matter of days and just over 5000 Bay of Plenty supporters will be there to make Waikato wonder what the heck they've come to.”

A queue is expected at Baycourt in the morning, with people advised to be early.

Craig believes it will be a 'fantastic day” between the two traditional rivals with a 2.35pm Sunday kick-off.

The last fixture at the Domain was against Hawke's Bay back in July 2009.

In recent seasons the traditional rivals and Kaimai neighbours have had the wood over the Steamers, having won the over last two years, 29-12 at Waikato Stadium and 28-25 at ASB Baypark in 2013.
