Final surfacing is due to take place on State Highway 2, between Domain Road and Mangatawa, this week with lane closures and speed restrictions in place.
Depending on weather the work is expected to take place between 9am and 4pm Monday till Thursday, the New Zealand Transport Agency reports on behalf of the Fulton Hogan HEB Construction Alliance.
Surfacing works on State Highway 2, near Papamoa, will take place this week.
Traffic will be restricted to one lane on the westbound lanes heading to Tauranga, with a 50km/h temporary speed limit restriction. The eastbound lanes heading to Te Puke, will have a series of lane closures in place, with traffic diverted into the adjacent lane along with a 50km/h temporary speed restriction.
The Kairua Road off ramp will also be closed to traffic to allow the final road surface to be placed across the exit ramp. Motorists are advised to use the alternative route via Welcome Bay Road.
Work is scheduled on the Kairua road off ramp on Tuesday, between 9am and 4pm, and the on-ramp on Thursday between 9am and 4pm.

is the westbound side being resealed? The quality is not good, rough bumpy patches, rough chip seal, compared with a nice smooth surface easy bound. Why is it didferent?

For DanielT- yep I read in the paper they have to wait for the other side to settle and will seal it the same as the other side further down the process. I agree the Papamoa end has been a nightmare getting in there after a hard day at work.Frankly I dont see how its going to improve by the look of the design - but Im very happy to be proved wrong. Apparently in a small part its still going to be one lane (who designed that!!) at the Pma end... It was faster getting home before the majority of the 2 laning opened. Please, please, please answer many peoples prayers and let it be better than the current state and free flowing - after yrs of inconvenience Papamoa people deserve it....

a little praise please. The workers involved in this huge task have done a great job and traffic has, in the main, moved smoothly throughout with no serious accidents. I pass through the works every day and have had no serious unexpected delays. A top class piece of road for us all and congratulations to all involved. PS Don't worry, papamoa end will be fine.
Way past time

Been going at this stretch of road forever so you would think NZTA could get its act together a bit quicker. Ain't exactly Speedy Gonzales stuff.Yes good idea ask Steve Morris he is bound to have the facts !!!and answers ?
Don't worry

All the NZTA mob and their associates all have Uni degrees - great. But have they any real "driving in heavy traffic experience" from my observations of some of their road works - probably not. Just like the $4.5 million roundabout north of Waikanae (Wellington). Ask them how many B train trucks "fell over" going around the roundabout. Road camber TOTALLY the wrong way. Watch the prangs on this new bit of road - blame the drivers - it cannot be our new road........... Yeah Right.
I think

the powers that be are thinking that a lot of traffic will go over the Domain rd fly-over heading towards Paengaroa, I don't think this will be the case as most cars now are heading to Pap East. The single lane going into the round-a-bout at Domain rd will be the down-fall of good traffic flow, I may be proved wrong, I hope so. Please please don't put a 50km speed zone heading into this area, if this happens we will always have traffic build-up in this bottle-neck. The next thing to do is train drivers how to "MERGE LIKE A ZIP" instead of racing into the gap & causing traffic to slow to a crawl. sometimes its just chaos with pushy drivers trying to get to the front of the queue, in a word RIDICULOUS !!!!!.
