With swimming caps, swimmers and speedos on, about 300 athletes are making a splash at Baywave Aquatic Centre in what could be the biggest swim meet in Tauranga this year.

About 300 competitors are taking part in the 2015 Greerton Winter Meet.

Hosted by Greerton Swimming Club, the 2015 Greerton Winter Meet, from Friday-Sunday, is ideally a warm-up to the New Zealand Age Group Short Course Championships in Auckland next month.

The meet is attracting some nationally ranked swimmers, including Greerton swimmer 22-year-old Nathan Capp, who is preparing for the World Swimming Championships in Russia in August.

Today, Nathan will dive into the pool to test his form in the 400m medley.

Sunday is the final day of the three-day meet, with the finale featuring the Medley Skins event, where swimmers compete for cash prizes.

The meeting's top 10 points scorers are selected for five heats which are held every two minutes. The slowest two swimmers will be eliminated in each heat, with the last surviving swimmer awarded $300 after completing five races in under 10 minutes.

SunLive photographer Cameron Avery was there to capture some of the action.
