What’s on Today: Craft beers

One of the best craft beers in the world will be on tap at Brew on The Strand today to celebrate America's Independence Day.

Sculpin India Pale Ale from Ballast Point Brewing in San Diego, California, is recognised as one of the best beers in the world, having won ‘World Beer Cup' gold medals in both 2010 and 2014 in the International Pale Ale category - the most prized and hotly contested category in brewing.

'It is worth noting that the World Beer Cup is unlike most other brewing competitions in that only one gold, silver and bronze medal is awarded per year in each category,” says Brew co-owner Nigel Gregory.

'Craft beer is probably the most exciting sector of the New Zealand hospitality industry right now, and much of this is due to the influence of the burgeoning craft beer scene State-side over the past couple of decades,” says Nigel.

'We are celebrating this influence with a mini-tap-takeover right here in Tauranga with six stunning American beers, including what is regarded as one of the world's very best beers. And we're definitely not talking about Budweiser or Coors Lite.”

BREW Tauranga's Independence Day celebration runs from 11am till late, with John Michaelz and Derek Jacombs playing live Blues and Americana music from 5pm-8pm.
