Councillor diagnosed with cancer

Tauranga City Councillor Gail McIntosh has been diagnosed with lymphoma.

She is taking a two months leave of absence to concentrate on treatment, Tauranga City Council released today.

Councillor Gail McIntosh has asked for privacy at this time.

Gail was previously diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma on the spine in September 2012, the release states.

A previous Member of Parliament, Gail is in her first term on council. Gail will, until more is known, be taking a two-month leave of absence to concentrate on her treatment plan.

Gail's committee and other Council-related obligations will be managed by her fellow Elected Members in the short term.

Gail is an accountant and deputy chair of the finance and risk committee.

You have battled away at TCC finances with some success so keep up the spirits on the health issues and I am sure you will be OK.

Very best wishes

For the support at this tough time. I've been enjoying the challenge with the TCC team, elected members and the public. I'll be back. Cheers Gail

I have had Non Hodgkins Lymphoma twice since 2001.I am still here. Best wishes and hope the treatment does not hit you too hard. I found the second time round was not as tough as the first. There is a group that meets every two months for morning tea and a chat "Leukaemia and Blood Cancer NZ" in Tauranga which includes those who have had Lymphoma or are currently receiving treatment. Contact is -matthew@leukaemia.org.nz
