Operation Neptune update

Police confirm that the 67-year-old man who died following an incident in Broderick Road, Johnsonville on Wednesday night was Noel Hudson Garratt, of Johnsonville.

He was known as Hudson to friends and family.

Four charges of assault with a weapon have been filed in the Wellington District Court against a 25-year-old woman in connection with the incident, with further charges anticipated pending the outcome of further inquiries.

A court hearing may be held later today at Hutt hospital where the woman is recovering from injuries received during her arrest.

A nine-year-old boy injured during the incident is still recovering in Wellington hospital and is in a stable condition.

Three other victims have since been discharged.

"While the laying of charges is an important step in the inquiry, there is still a lot of work to be done regarding the ongoing investigation," says Detective Senior Sergeant John Van Den Heuvel of Wellington CIB.

"Police's current focus is on supporting the victims and their families, who have asked that the media to please allow them the privacy to grieve during this very difficult and tragic time.

"Police is also mindful of future court matters so is unable to comment on the specifics of the charged woman's relationship with the family members at the house, or their relationships in detail," Mr Van Den Heuvel says.

"In the meantime, we have a large team working on the inquiry and are strongly focussed on finding out what has happened.

"We again reassure the community that we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this tragic event, which is an isolated incident, with no ongoing risk to the community."
