Missing Coromandel hunter found dead

A Coromandel hunter who went missing while possum hunting yesterday afternoon has been found dead.

Scott Grant Driver's body was located at the bottom of a bluff near his home.

The coroner is investigating the death of Scott Driver.

Search and rescue coordinator Sergeant Vince Ranger says the family of 50-year-old Kaimarama man Scott Grant Driver contacted police this morning after he failed to return home.

He had been out hunting with two Pittbull Terrier dogs between Cooks Beach and Hahei Wednesday but failed to return home overnight.

'Concerned friends and relatives conducted an unsuccessful search, which included the use of a helicopter, for him overnight and raised the alarm with Police yesterday morning.”

About 20 Land Search and Rescue volunteers and a Coastguard launch have been searching for him today and were joined by the Auckland based Police Eagle Helicopter.

Police located Scott's body yesterday evening.

His death is being investigated by the coroner.

'Our thoughts are with family and friends of Scott at this time,” says Senior Sergeant Andrew Townsend.
