Babies enjoy free swimming lessons

Little Bailee Fernandes loves her Baywave swimming lessons.

Next term this five-month-old, and 999 other local babes, will get to enjoy a term of free swimming lessons.

The water is a happy place for young Bailee Fernandes and her mother Anna.

Bookings are now being taken for the free swimming lessons, which are being offered thanks to a partnership between McLeods and BaySwim.

The parent and child Aquababes lessons are for children aged between three months and 36 months at the start of term three.

BaySwim manager Sean Tretheway says the response to the Aquababes offer has been phenomenal with places filling fast.

However, there are still places available, and he urges those interested to book smartly.

'An opportunity like this is not offered every day. A whole term of free lessons for 1000 local children is something we are hugely proud to be able to offer to our community,” he says.

McLeod's managing director Scott McLeod says the Aquababes programme sits nicely with the company's safety first philosophy, and on-going support for water-safety initiatives.

The lessons will be held in the heated pools at Baywave and Greerton.

You can offer this to 1000 pre school children and yet we are closing school pools. Traditionally it is school age children and older who drown . Perhaps you could educate the littlies around driveway safety and seat belt enforcement from parents.
