Home detention for armed callout

A Tauranga man who sparked an armed callout for threatening to kill people in May has been sentenced to home detention.

Quintin Casino Borell will spend the next 12 months on home detention after being sentenced in Tauranga District Court last week.

Armed police were called as they searched for Borell in the Tauranga area on May 6.

He has also been sentenced to community work, supervision and disqualified from driving.

At an earlier appearance, Borell has pleaded guilty to three counts of threatening to kill, and one count each of reckless driving, failing to stop for red and blue lights and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was arrested in Greerton on May 6 following a four hour armed police manhunt which started in Te Puna.

Police were called to a Te Puna address around 8am after reports of a man armed with a knife attempting to force his way into a property.

The armed offenders' squad was called because there was mention of a weapon.

Following a search, which saw vehicles stopped and checked in Te Puna, Borell was arrested and taken into police custody.

what the heck is going on here. This clown threatened to kill people, then ran from the cops with a weapon etc etc the list goes on. Now the courts say he has to stay home and play xbox. What a stuffed up world we live in. Would hate to be the ones he was after. A stupied bracelet around the leg wont stop this fool.
