Waikanae firearms threat

At about 1pm on Wednesday July 1, 2015, Police were called to an address in Waikanae after reports were received that a woman and a man were travelling to the area in a white Subaru with firearms and drugs.

Police had information that the pair, who are known to police, were planning to threaten a person known to them.

Armed Police located the car at an address in Waikanae and waited for Armed Offender Squad members to arrive.

However, the white Subaru with three male occupants left the address, but were subsequently stopped by armed police on State Highway 1, north of Peka Peka Road at about 2.20pm.

Three men, aged 27 – 40, from Wellington, Porirua and Waikanae, all known to police, were detained and the vehicle searched.

No firearms or drugs have been located, and a full search of the address is yet to be completed.

Wellington Police Senior Sergeant Brett Simon says it appeared to be an isolated incident involving people known to each other and there was no wider risk to the public.

Enquiries are ongoing with charges yet to be determined.
