Solving commuter frustrations

Years of frustration for Papamoa commuters as they queue their way along Papamoa Beach Road could be solved this month when the Mangatawa interchange opens for traffic.

The overpass connects to the 100km/h four lane Tauranga Eastern Link at Sandhurst Drive, adding another option for Papamoa commuters heading into Tauranga.

The TEL/Sandhurst Drive ramps are expected to be carrying traffic later this month.

The 6km four lane section from the Te Maunga roundabout to Domain road was opened to traffic in May.

Transport Agency senior project manager Wayne Troughton says the opening of the interchange is weather dependent. They are hoping to be able to open the overpass about mid-month, if there aren't too many weather related delays to the final stages.

The looming official opening date for the rest of the TEL from Domain road to Paengaroa is yet to be officially confirmed.

But why not settle all the b****ing with you know who and finish off, drive through, and connect up Grenada St or Gloucester Roads at both ends with Papamoa as that would do the trick even better.
