Power cut to 1200 properties

Power was cut to around 1200 properties in Tauranga last night when a crane struck overhead lines on Powerco's electricity network.

Powerco acting network operations manager Dean Stevenson says power supply was lost around 11.20pm, affecting properties in Mount Maunganui.

He says supply was restored to the majority of customers within an hour and fully restored at 3.30am.

Rosalie Crawford contacted SunLive about the power cut affecting the Mount from Hull Road through to The Mall.

When the power was restored, Rosalie reported 'alarm systems all over the place are now sounding probably from nearby empty apartments”.
