Police are trying to locate the owners of a trailer discovered during an investigation in the Bay of Plenty.

Officers believe it is stolen and don't know where it comes from.

Bay of Plenty Police are searching for the owners of a stolen trailer.

'It's possible it has come from as far away as the South Island,” says a statement from police.

'We also suspect it has been re-painted, but it appears to have been purpose-built and is quite distinctive, so we're hoping the genuine owner will recognise it.”

People with information about the trailer are asked to contact Rotorua Police on 07 348 0099 and leave your details for Detective Sergeant Kevin Morshead.

Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
