This highly anticipated concert is presented by Arts on Tour NZ and part of a seven-date tour of the North Island.

The show will be opened by Rob, who combines taonga made of stone, bone, shell and wood with modern looping technology to create rich and ethereal textured soundscapes.

Tonight he will be performing his latest work Whaia te Maramatanga which is a personal exploration of the healing qualities of an ancient practice through the medium of sound.

With over 25 years' performance experience in bands and solo, Rob's work with traditional Maori instruments has led to an MA in Social Anthropology

He has worked both academically and musically with master musician Richard Nunns QSM, plus collaborated with Phil Dadson, Dudley Benson and Ariana Tikao. He has researched, taught and demonstrated at museums and marae throughout the country.

The second half of the show will then feature Charlotte Yates, who many will remember from the 1990's band ‘When the Cat's Been Spayed'.

Since then, Charlotte has recorded six albums, produced two Melbourne Fringe Arts Festivals, plus directed and produced the critically acclaimed albums ‘Baxter', ‘Tuwhare' and ‘Ihimaera'.

She will be joined stage by award winning sound designer and multi-instrumentalist Gil Eva Craig and the two will perform songs from Charlotte's album Archipelago, co-produced and arranged by Gil.

A Special Concert with Rob Thorne, Charlotte Yates and Gil Eva Craig is on at the Tauranga Art Gallery at 7pm. Entry is now free.
