Man arrested in armed callout

UPDATED 3.51PM: A man has been arrested following an armed police callout in Kerepehi this afternoon.

Armed Police had set up cordons in Kerepehi, and were appealing to a man at a property for a number of hours following threats involving a firearm.

Police negotiators were in contact with the man and this has resulted in him surrendering to Police without further incident.

Earlier:

Armed Police are currently dealing with an incident in the small township of Kerepehi, just south of Thames.

Members of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad have set up cordons in Kerepehi and are at present appealing to a man at a property to give himself up.

'The local primary school and kohanga reo are in lock down as is standard practice in a situation such as this and Police are in constant communication with them,” says a statement from police.

'Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
