Teen arrested for CBD beating

A Mount Maunganui 18-year-old has been arrested for the early morning beating of a Tauranga man.

The 42-year-old victim is in Waikato Hospital in a critical condition after being attacked in Masonic Park around 1am.

Police have arrested a person alleged to have seriously beaten a man in Tauranga CBD.

Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier says the accused will be appearing in Tauranga District Court on June 4 on an assault charge.

"The vehicle used by the alleged offenders has also been located and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident."

The victim was taken to Tauranga Hospital before being transferred to Waikato Hospital later in the afternoon on Saturday.

I thought that they were looking for three offenders. Is "Aiding and abetting a crime" no longer an offence?

You could be incorrect. One can only assume there is a reason(s) for all three not being charged. (A) The person charged may have admitted that he, only, did the deed. (B) He indicated that the others did not participate, other than being in the car. So, aiding means to help or assist someone to achieve something. Abetting also means to assist someone but usually in the sense of doing something illegal. Therefore, readers will have to draw their own conclusions.
