Overdue hunter walks out of bush

UPDATE: The missing Coromandel hunter has walked out of the bush a short distance from where he went in. He has spoken with police and is safe and well.

A search and rescue operation is underway for a hunter missing in the Coromandel State Forest Park.

The 37-year-old man went out looking for pig dogs in the Wire Road area and was last seen on Thursday morning.


Search and rescue teams are scouring the bush looking for a hunter who was last seen on Thursday morning.

Police say he failed to turn up for work on Friday which is very unusual.

"His employer contacted Police early this morning with concerns for his employee. Police currently have five teams in the bush.

"Missing person is described as being well dressed for the conditions and very confident in the bush," say Police.

"Whilst this is early in the search, Police are still very much aware of impending weather in the next couple of days for the Waikato and Coromandel."
