Motorcyclist suffers leg injuries

A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after crashing with a truck near Te Kaha.

The Tauranga-based TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to airlift the man, 53, to Rotorua Hospital after he was pulled from down a bank yesterday afternoon.

Pilot Liam Brettkelly says the man suffered serious hip and lower leg injuries.

'The man lost control of his motorbike on a sharp bend and crashed with the front of a truck.

'His two riding passengers called emergency services.”

The patient was driven to Te Kaha Medical Centre where he was meet by the rescue helicopter and taken to hospital for further treatment.

Just before the crash, the rescue helicopter transported a four-year-old boy to Tauranga Hospital.

The boy was suffering from abdominal pain and was flown from Matakana Island in a stable condition.
