Fatal logging truck crash on SH2

One person has died after a crash between a logging truck and a people mover vehicle on State Highway 2, east of Te Puke.

The highway is now fully open after the crash blocked the stretch of road, between Rangiuru and Pah roads, just after 7.30am.

The crash happened in the eastbound lane of SH2.

One person was in critical condition when emergency services arrived at the scene.

Police say that person has since died.

While both lanes are open, police advise there will be some delays until the traffic has cleared from the area.

Inspector Kerry Watson says no other information will be released until next of kin have been notified.

One person is believed to be in critical condition.

He says there are heaps of people at the scene helping out and emergency services are heading to the scene.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area is possible or take alternative routes as both lanes of the highway are blocked.

"The road is expected to be closed for several hours as emergency services deal with the incident."

Just another reason to get these Mammoths of automobiles OFF the road and logs onto the Railway.

Or, another reason for people to take their time, and make sure there's a big enough gap and they know how fast traffic is moving before they try to pull out onto the highway

Well in this case car doing U turn in front of truck not trucks fault at all. You say remove trucks off road. I say remove cars from road and only have trucks and buses as most accidents are caused by the car not the large vehicles.

Its people like Pete Kelly who should be off the road. If his driving is like his stupid comments i hope he is never on the same bit of road at the same time as me.

It is terrible my heart goes out to the logging truck driver and the family of the deceased. Drive to the conditions doing a u turn there is not the safest thing to do as visibility is not good.

Not the trucks fault

People jst need to pay attention when driving, and Pete Kelly, if we take all the trucks of the road are YOU going to deliver EVERYTHING to the shops?? trains cant drive to the supermarket. Car drivers are more inconsiderate than truck drivers who generally drive about 12hours a day and see ALOT more then you.

You make a valid point. I am a truck driver and yes I see A LOT of stupidity. I have been overtaken by cars over double yellow lines twice in the last week on SH2. On both occasions I was doing 80-90km/h and less than a kilometre from a passing lane!I have also seen too many near head on collisions due to overtaking. Have some patience people!

Blame

Whoever is to blame, everyone needs to take more time & be more patient when on the road. I'm a 'motorcyclist', & you might say, "we are the worst', however, I've seen some damn stupid drivers on the road when I'm not doing a damm thing wrong. Car drivers just don't use their mirrors at all. I commute everyday on my bike, I can see 4 cars ahead what the driver is doing before they even indicate. I think most of the truckies are far better then cars. How can they see you behind them, if you can't see their mirrors. And how can you NOT see a 40+ ton truck coming your way when pulling out in front of them. How can they stop in a matter of metres. Stop TXTing, & being distracted.

I have no problems with bikers. Most of the time i move my truck over to the left to let them thru as i am courteous. I dont see many cars do that.....
