Dangerous act at railway station

Emergency services were called to an incident at the Orakei Railway station this evening at about 6.30pm.

A male in his 20's was seen jumping a fence and running across the tracks in front of a moving train.

The train clipped the young male as he ran in front of the train and it was feared he had been killed or seriously injured, however he was seen to run off after being 'clipped'.

"Evidence of how close a call this was, was that shoe scuff marks were located on the front of the train.

This was a dangerous and foolish act and the young man is very lucky not to have been killed" said Inspector Tony Wakelin

A Police Dog unit and Police Helicopter searched the immediate area to ensure he was not injured nearby.

No one was located.
