Mystery surrounds man’s death

A post mortem examination of a man's body found in a Bay of Plenty stream has revealed no clues as to how he died.

Whilst police have a provisional cause of death, more work needs to be carried out to establish the exact circumstances that led to the man's death.

The body was found in a stream backing onto Ruth Street in the Fordlands area of Rotorua on Monday while two people were out trout fishing.

'Police will not discuss the outcome of the post mortem examination,” says Bay of Plenty Police communications manager Kim Perks.

'It is still too soon to speculate as to whether the man's death is suspicious or not and at this stage it remains an unexplained death.”

Police hope to be able to release details of the man's identity today once his next of kin have been informed.

Kim says it will be at that point that police will be appealing for assistance from the public to piece together the last movements of the man.

In the meantime, if anyone has any information that might assist police, they are asked to contact Rotorua Police on: 07 348 0099.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
