Shoplifters prompt warning

Don't let criminal activity go unreported. That is the message from Tauranga Police after a number of fashion retailers in the city fell prey to shoplifters yesterday.

SunLive received an email warning of 'three Polynesian women” who were reported to have stolen clothing from retail stores down the length of Devonport Road on Wednesday afternoon.

'Please be aware that there are some females reported stealing items carrying/storing in a large duffle bag,” said the email, which was received at around 2pm.

'If you come across these three, please notify police,” it continued.

While Tauranga Senior Sergeant Chris Summerville says he is not aware of any shoplifting offences in the Devonport Road area, that's not to say something did not happen.

'They may not have reported it to police or they may not have called our 111 line,” admits Chris.

Police are urging people who spot such behaviour to call them immediately so they can respond as quickly as possible.

'People need to be vigilant and confident that they can ring 111,” adds Chris.
