Hospitable help for NZ charity

Choice Hotels is hoping to raise $15,000 for Cystic Fibrosis NZ by donating $2 from every night stayed at any of their hotels across the country from May 25-31.

With more than 35 establishments across New Zealand, including the local Comfort Inn Academy hotel property in Tauranga, Choice Hotels hopes to raise the money through its ‘Make Cystic Fibrosis Invincible' initiative.

Trent Fraser, Choice Hotels Chief Executive Officer, is 'thrilled” to be involved in the fundraising efforts for a second year.

'Effectively the more people that stay at our hotels over this period, the more we can give to this important cause,” says Trent.

'We are so pleased about how much we are able to contribute to the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis and urge anyone planning to travel during this time to support the cause by simply choosing to book a bed with Choice.”

Belinda Burnett, Chief Executive Officer of Cystic Fibrosis NZ, says the money raised will go directly towards the organisation's hard-working fieldworkers.

She says: 'Our fieldworkers travel the country to support and positively influence the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis, both in their homes, in hospitals and specialist visits.

'We are incredibility grateful to Choice Hotels for its support which has enabled us to significantly reduce our running costs, allowing us to make a stronger impact on the lives of those living with the disorder.”

Cystic fibrosis is the most common life threatening genetic disorder affecting New Zealand's children.

The condition affects several organs, especially the lungs and pancreas, by clogging them with mucus.

It can cause shortness of breath, a chronic cough and repeated chest infections. The average life expectancy for those with cystic fibrosis is significantly lower than the general population.

This will be the second of several initiatives undertaken by Choice Hotels in its partnership with the charity, with a further fundraising initiative planned during the critical Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Week.
