Bardoul falls to locking curse

Johan Bardoul's breakout Super Rugby season is over, after becoming the latest player to fall to the Chiefs' locking curse.

In his eighth match of season, Bardoul joined semi-retired Chiefs forward Ross Filipo to lock the scrum in the side's 34-20 win over the Bulls in Rotorua.

Within the opening 10 minutes, he injured the medial cruciate ligament, before going on to play the full 80-minutes thanks to strapping.

In a statement, The Chiefs say Bardoul will be out for the remainder of the Investec Super Rugby season, with the recovery time for this type of injury expected to be up to eight weeks.

Bardoul was given the locked duties in Friday's win after flatmate and lock Michael Allardice suffered the same injury against the Hurricanes the previous week.

It's a blow to the 27-year-old who re-signed with the Super Rugby franchise for a further two seasons, along with halfback Brad Weber and Allardice.

The Chiefs are away to the Highlanders in Invercargill this weekend in what will be a pivotal match in both sides' play-off aspirations.
