Canterbury Police Search and Rescue teams can confirm that the body of a female was recovered from the Rangitata beach near the river mouth last night.
The death has been referred to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death.
No details of the deceased will be released until the body has been formally identified and the process to inform next of kin has been completed.
