Safety improvement works along State Highway 2, between Te Puna and north of Athenree Gorge, are expected to cause delays for motorists today.

Pavement widening, barrier and guardrail installation, and tree trimming and felling will be taking place at multiple sites along the route between 6am and 6pm.

There will be shoulder closures with speed restrictions and contra-flow traffic management as required.

Drivers are recommended to allow an extra ten minutes to driving times for the 45km length of SH2 from the Wairoa Bridge to a point north of the Athenree Gorge.
