Tauranga's very own First World War exhibition is proving popular with thousands of appreciative visitors keen to delve into New Zealand's history ahead of this weekend's final day.
The exhibition, WW1 from Tauranga to the Trenches, was designed to honour and commemorate the sacrifices made by Tauranga soldiers and their families 100 years ago. It opened at Classic Flyers on Anzac Day, and closes at noon on Saturday (May 23).

The four shipping containers enclosing displays, information, graphics, interactive activities and genuine memorabilia commemorate the 100th centenary of our involvement in World War I at Classic Flyers Museum.
The free exhibition has taken over the floor space inside the main Legacy Trust Hangar.
Classic Flyers' retail sales manager Garry Bentley says the exhibition has been well supported.
'When it opened on Anzac Day we saw more than 1000 people through,” says Garry.
'On school days we have averaged 160 school students plus about 50 members of the public. On weekends it has been attracting between 300 and 400 people.”
Comments in the visitors' book indicate people are both moved and amazed by the exhibition.
'Absolutely stunning commentary has resulted,” adds Garry. 'People are blown away by it. The visitors' book includes a great list of superlatives.”
He says the school pupils have got a lot out of it, adding: 'Ninety per cent of the schools arrived with the especially-prepared question sheets, so their visits were especially worthwhile.
'There has been especially strong interest from primary and intermediate schools.”
In total, 110 Tauranga soldiers who went to war, fought and didn't come back are listed at the exhibition.
Admission is free, however donations are gratefully accepted, with proceeds going Tauranga and Mount Maunganui RSAs.
The rest of the museum is still open and accessible to visitors.
